UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP say device thought suspicious was not an explosive

UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP say the device that was first thought to be suspicious was not an explosive.

Mounties say they got a report just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday about a suspicious device in the area of Kateri Drive and 103 Avenue. The device was on a fence.

The area was blocked off until the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit could get there.

Police determined that the device was not an explosive and the area was deemed safe. RCMP did not specify what the device was that was found.

The investigation continues. Mounties are thanking the public for avoiding the area.

Grande Prairie RCMP say they are currently on the scene after a report of a suspicious device.

The call came from the area of 103 Street and Kateri Drive.

Mounties added the following in a news release:

“The area has been contained and public access has been blocked.

In the interest of safety, the public is asked to please avoid the area until further notice.

The Explosive Disposal Unit has been called, and Grande Prairie RCMP remain on scene.

An update will be provided as it becomes available.”
