Pelland, Team Canada in Puerto Rico this week

UPDATE 2: Canada wound up in eighth place at the tournament after a 3-1 loss to Mexico in a placement game.

Canada lost to eventual winners Argentina 3-1 in the quarter-final round, then lost to Peru 3-0 in a match that decided which team would go to the fifth-place game.

Argentina beat host side Puerto Rico 3-2 in the final. The US got by the Dominican Republic 3-1 in the bronze medal game. Colombia beat Peru 3-2 in the fifth-place game.

UPDATE: Canada is 1-1 so far at the Women’s Senior Pan American Cup volleyball tournament in Puerto Rico.

Canada opened with a four-set loss to Colombia on Sunday before beating Costa Rica 3-0 Monday.

Canada was off today and will play Peru Wednesday and the Americans Thursday.

The schedule had to be changed because two teams could not make it to the event on time.

The team from Suriname was stranded in Guyana because of flight cancellations.

Cuba could not get there because of troubles completing the immigration process.

Wanham’s Quinn Pelland and her teammates on Canada’s national women’s volleyball team are playing in Puerto Rico this week.

They are competing at the 20th Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup taking place August 6 to 13 in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Pelland made her debut with Team Canada during Volleyball Nations League play earlier this summer.

Canada is in Group A with Colombia, Cuba, Peru, the US and Suriname and will play Cuba in its first game Sunday.

Next comes Colombia on Monday, Peru Tuesday, Suriname Wednesday and the Americans Thursday.

Group B includes Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

The first place finisher in each group gets a bye to the semi-finals while the second and third place finishers advance to the quarterfinals.
