GPREP advising NWT wildfire evacuees of limited hotel accommodations

The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership is strongly recommending evacuees from wildfires in the Northwest Territories that are in or coming to Grande Prairie, to head to St. Albert if able to.

GPREP says accommodations in the area are limited due to the Bear Creek Folk Festival taking place in the community over the August 18-20 weekend.

For evacuees that are able to, register as an evacuee in St. Albert at the Servus Credit Union Place at 400 Campbell Road to seek temporary shelter. You can also call ahead to get more information at 780-418-6088.

GPREP notes St. Albert extending their assistance will ensure the needs of evacuees are met and provide much-needed support.

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre is accepting donations of necessities and monetary for evacuees in the community. More information can be found below:

NWT Wildfire Information – August 15:

Yellowknife declared a local state of emergency on Monday night due to an imminent wildfire threat.

Roads out of Hay River to the Alberta border and west to Yellowknife are all closed at this time.

The only way of evacuation out of Hay River is through arranged air transportation, the highway is not an option.

The community of Enterprise was completely engulfed by wildfire on Monday, as well as Patterson Road area and parts of Paradise Gardens. Damage also occurred in fibre and electrical lines and NWT Fire says crews are assessing the extent of structure loss.

  • Clearwater Inn and Suites- 4 Haineault St, Fort McMurray
  • Baytex Energy Centre – 9810- 73 Ave, Peace River
  • Servus Credit Union Place – 400 Campbell Road, St. Albert
