Blue-green algae advisory issued for Moonshine Lake

Alberta Health Services has issued a blue-green algae advisory for Moonshine Lake.

People are being advised to avoid any contact with blue-green algae blooms and wash with tap water right away if there is contact.

They are also asked to limit how much fish they eat and to not swim or wade in the water for these algae are visible.

Pets should also be kept out of the water where these blooms can be seen and should not be fed anything that comes from fish taken from the lake.

Edible plants should not be given water that contains blue-green algae.

AHS says anyone who comes in contact with blue-green algae can have a sore throat, sore red eyes, skin irritation, or nausea, among other symptoms.

The advisory is in place until further notice.

Parts of Moonshine Lake where a bloom is not visible can still be used for recreational purposes.
