Fibre optic internet coming to Sexsmith

Residents in Sexsmith may have noticed over the past month construction happening around town, installing fibre optic cables underground for faster internet speeds.

Northern Lights Fibre is the company installing the cables, which has already connected the neighboring communities of Wembley, Beaverlodge, Valleyview, High Prairie, Grande Cache, and Sturgeon County with their high-speed network.

The project being is supported by the town and backed by Mayor Kate Potter.

“We believe this is an opportunity for economic growth in the community, significantly enhancing the connectivity options and available network speed for local businesses and residents alike. In today’s business world, we know the quality of internet service is an integral part of the success of a company and we also know that families heavily rely on these services in their daily lives.”

“Improving this service in the community will open new doors for business and improve the quality of life in Sexsmith for residents,” Potter said in a news release.
