Sold out Bear Creek Folk Festival huge success

Aug 21, 2023 | 12:36 PM

After selling out two weeks shy of the festival start date, the Bear Creek Folk Festival went off without a hitch despite the less-than-ideal weather to start.

Headliners brought in a massive crowd to fill Muskoseepi Park.

BCFF Producer Sarah Card says there were around 7,500 people who came through the gates every day over the festival weekend.

“We had a sold-out crowd and that brought a new energy to the site, but there’s just something really magical about this group of people.”

“I got so much feedback from artists and attendees saying how amazing our volunteers are and just the vibes on site were really beautiful,” Card adds it was a special weekend for all.

She says it was a full hilltop to bottom every night for the headliner acts; The Strumbellas, Sarah McLachlan, and Blue Rodeo.

The rain on Friday morning/afternoon didn’t stop those from attending; Card says the weather was in their favor all weekend.

“It didn’t rain during the concerts for the most part and Saturday and Sunday… the weather could not have been better, it was just stunning.”

Card says there were about 650 volunteers at BCFF this year, the most they’ve ever had.

“Volunteers are such an important, integral part. They create the vibe on site, make everyone feel welcome, and makes it into a really special experience.”

She says even with the sheer volume of those stepping forward to help with the festival this year, they are always looking for more as the event grows.

“It was a weekend to remember; for me and for so many people,” Card sends thanks to attendees, sponsors, volunteers, crews, and artists that made the event possible.

Plans are already well in the works for BCFF 2024 for the lineup, according to Card.
