Experience Grande Prairie hosting Albertan Country Music Star and Juno Award winner

Aug 24, 2023 | 12:04 PM

The second annual Experience Grande Prairie is set to turn Downtown into a giant block party, on Friday, September 1, and Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a release, “We hope to see many community members join us with their families and friends on September 1 for this end-of-summer celebration.”

The event has changed slightly from last year, only taking place on one day instead of a weekend, running from 3 p.m. till 11 p.m.

Free live music and entertainment will still be offered, with performances by double-platinum Country Music star Aaron Goodvin and Juno award winner Barney Bentall, set to start at 7 p.m.

The City has also added a wider range of activities to attract more people from our community.

New additions to this year’s “block party” include, fitness/healthy lifestyle demonstrations, sports workshops, mixology skills, and a Mural Photo Contest put on by the DownTown association.

To participate, residents will need to take a picture with one of the murals downtown, post it on Instagram, tag @gpdowntown and @cityofgp for a chance to win one of ten $50 City Centre Gift cards.

Entries will be accepted from August 30 to September 3.

The main amenities will also be returning:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Face Painting
  • Bouncy Castles
  • Carnival Games
  • Roaming Entertainment
  • Community and Information Booths
  • Food Trucks
  • Beer Garden

Activities will run from 3 p.m. until live music starts, at 7 p.m.

Due to the event, a road closure will be in place along 100 Avenue, starting at 6 a.m. Friday, until Saturday at 2 p.m.
