A local grocery store is being commended for their helping hand and delicious meals to first responders and firefighters while their community was evacuated due to impending wildfire.

In May 2023, the Town of Fox Creek was put on mandatory evacuation order due to two nearby wildfires surrounding the community.

Freson Bros. Fox Creek’s Store Manager, Kyle Amos evacuated his young family and returned to the town to provide food to the front lines.

Two Red Seal Chefs and a Red Seal Baker rallied behind Amos’ efforts and volunteered their time and skill to prepare over 100 meals per day to nourish those defending the town from the flames.

These four men’s actions were recognized and have won the Fox Creek Freson Bros. location the 2023 Canadian Grocer Impact Award in the Community Service category.

President of Freson Bros., Doug Lovsin said in a news release, “This award is a testament to Freson Bros.’ commitment to supporting our local community.”

“We look after each other, out friends, out neighbours, and all of our communities. This is the foundation of who we are,” Lovsin said.

The Canadian Grocer Impact Awards are given out on an annual basis to grocers that go above and beyond to make the world a better place and have a positive impact in their area.
