GP RONA raising funds for Grande Prairie Women’s Residence Association

Sep 1, 2023 | 3:31 PM

Grande Prairie’s RONA is participating in a month-long fundraiser to support vulnerable populations.

Home Sweet Home is a countrywide campaign launched by RONA to raise funds to revitalize living conditions and make access to housing easier.

Grande Prairie location assistant store manager Scott Jennings says locally they want to raise $5,000 for the Grande Prairie Women’s Residence Association.

“They’re a local shelter,” says Jennings. “They provide a lot of different services for the families and people that are in different situations that are trying to get some secure housing and secure facilities where they can feel comfortable and safe.”

Jennings says they’re working to raise $5,000 through multiple initiatives throughout the month, including a silent auction.

“There’s a few lamps, there’s some artwork and stuff like that, we’re going to have some jewelry posted from an artist in Kelowna,” he says. “We’ll be doing a yard sale September 23 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, recyclables we’re taking at the store, we’re going to store them and at the end of the process we will get the money for that and donate that as donations as well.”

He says it’s important to be able to help locals in need.

“Domestic violence and issues like that, homelessness for families and stuff,” he says. “I think everybody either knows somebody or has been in contact with somebody that’s experienced it. It’s a forefront issue right now and I think we can do everything we can to support it. I’d appreciate anybody that would donate items or donate recyclables, and they can drop them off at the store.”

The campaign runs from September 1-30.
