Updates on road and trail work

116 Avenue

City Hall says the upgrades to 116 Avenue will finish ahead of schedule.

The city’s chief operating officer Brian Glavin says the original target date to finish was next month.

“Initially, we were expecting it to be closer to the end of October before it was done.”

“Between good weather and the contractor getting things done early, it’s a good surprise to have something done early (rather) than to bleed into next year.”

A stretch of westbound 116 Avenue west of 100 Street was rebuilt and some underground storm line upgrades were completed.

84 Avenue

Glavin says work on 84 Avenue finished on time.

“(On) 84 Avenue, we did a complete rehabilitation of the westbound lanes from 108 Street to 116 Street.”

“That wrapped up on time and we don’t see any issues with that one for the foreseeable future.”

The work started in June.

Muskoseepi Park trails

Work continues to upgrade some of the Muskoseepi Park trails near 68 Avenue.

Glavin says slope rehabilitation to prevent landslides should be done by the end of September.

“We had some geotechnical analysis done on the slope and the issue is essentially water.”

“Part of the remediation that we are doing there is adding some drainage to the area and once that is done, we don’t expect there to be additional issues with the slope.”

Glavin says the trails have been moved slightly to the west.
