Hockey, football and volleyball all on the local sports schedule this weekend

Storm

A fan festival that starts at 5 p.m. Friday (September, 22) afternoon will be held ahead of the home opener for the Storm.

They will play Drayton Valley starting at 7 p.m. at the Bonnetts Energy Centre.

Grande Prairie opened the 2023-24 AJHL season with two road losses. The Thunder have lost their first three games.

The Storm will also host Drayton Valley on Saturday night. The face-off time will be 6 p.m.

NWJHL

There are three games in the Northwest Junior Hockey League Friday night. Fort St. John in Fairview, Dawson Creek in Sexsmith, and the Wheat Kings in Peace River All start at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Peace River in Fairview at 8 p.m. Beaverlodge in La Crete at 7 p.m.

Sunday, Beaverlodge in La Crete at 1:30.

Thursday night, the Wheat Kings downed visiting Sexsmith 4-1.

Football

In the Mighty Peace Football League Friday, the Peace Wapiti Academy Titans in Whitecourt and Edson in Valleyview start at 4 p.m. Fort McMurray at High Prairie kicks off at 4:30. Sexsmith at the Grande Prairie Phoenix starts at 6 p.m. at CKC Field.

Volleyball

The Wolves are hosting the Howler Cup volleyball tournament on Friday and Saturday. NWP was expecting 80 teams to take part. The tournament includes teams in Grade 7 and 8, Grade 9, and Senior divisions.

Nitehawk

Nitehawk will host its 27th Comedy Nite Fundraiser Saturday. Tickets are available through the Bonnetts Energy Centre Box Office.
