Speeder caught going extremely fast in Sturgeon County

Oct 1, 2023 | 9:00 AM

RCMP say they nabbed a speeder on Sept. 28 allegedly going 197 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

It was about 6:15 p.m. when a member of Fort Saskatchewan RCMP observed a Toyota GR86 — a sports car — travelling at the extreme speed on Highway 15 near the Old Fort Trail. Traffic was heavy given the time of day, RCMP note.

A laser speed measuring device was used to calculate the vehicle’s speed at 197 km/h, leading to the arrest of a 20-year-old male resident of Fort Saskatchewan. The male was then charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

RCMP once again remind all motorists to obey the posted speed limits and to call 911 to report dangerous driving in progress.
