Hockey, football, volleyball, soccer on a busy weekend sports schedule

Storm

The Storm have picked up their first win of a four-game southern Alberta road trip.

Grande Prairie beat Canmore 5-4 in overtime Thursday night. Alex Atwill scored the overtime winner and recorded two assists.

The Storm finish the road swing Friday night in Drumheller.

NWJHL

There are three games in the Northwest Junior Hockey League Friday, Dawson Creek in Sexsmith, Wheat Kings in Beaverlodge and Peace River in Fort St. John. Face-off time will be 8 p.m. for all three.

Saturday, Peace River at the Wheat Kings, Beaverlodge in Dawson Creek, and Sexsmith in Fort St. John. All those games start at 8 p.m. Also Saturday, Fairview travels to La Crete for a 7 p.m. face-off.

Sunday, Fairview in La Crete starts at 1:30.

MPFL

Two games on Friday wrap up the regular season for the Mighty Peace Football League.

Peace Wapiti Academy will be in Valleyview. Kick-off at 4 p.m.

St. Joe’s at Sexsmith starts at 6 p.m. at CKC Field. Both teams are unbeaten with a 5-0 record this season.

Wolves

Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves volleyball opens the season Friday and Saturday at home against Augustana. Games times are 6 and 8 p.m. Friday and 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday with the women’s game first both days.

Soccer will host Keyano College Saturday and Sunday. Game times are 2:30 and 4:30 Saturday and noon and 2 p.m. Sunday with the women’s game first both days.

The cross-country running team will wrap up the Grand Prix schedule Saturday in Camrose. The ACAC championships are set for October 28 in Lethbridge.

Basketball will open the season at home against The Kings University October 20 and 21.
