Local hockey schedule, rodeo results

NPHL

In the North Peace Hockey League Thursday, the Grande Prairie Athletics will look to get back to .500 after dropping their home opener to Spirit River on Saturday.

The A’s will play the Fort St. John Flyers at the Design Works Centre.

Face-off will be at 8:30.

NWJHL

There is one game in the Northwest Junior Hockey League Thursday.

The sixth-place Beaverlodge Blades will visit the second-place County Wheat Kings.

Puck drop is set for 8 p.m.

Wednesday night, Sexsmith recorded a 4-3 win at home over Fairview.

Storm

The Grande Prairie Storm lost in Whitecourt Wednesday 3-1, with Tomas Marinkovic scoring the Storm’s lone goal.

The Storm are back in action on Friday when they host the Lloydminster Bobcats at the Bonnett’s Energy Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Storm also host the Bobcats at 6 p.m. Saturday in the 3rd Annual Tighty-Whitey Toss game in support of the Dignity Drive.

Donations of new underwear and socks can be thrown on the ice after the Storm score their first goal.

Rodeo

Night 2 of the Canadian Finals Rodeo goes Thursday in Red Deer.

Results for local competitors on Night 1 included Chase Siemens and Denver Leitch finishing first and third in novice barebacks.

Brooke Wills was fifth, Lane Wills ninth in barrel racing.

Tyrel Roberts was sixth in saddle broncs.

Stephen Culling was tenth in steer wrestling.

Jett Lambert and Jake Gardner were both bucked off in a bull riding round that had two qualified rides.

CFR will continue through Sunday.
