NDP says it has received “thousands of letters” opposing coal exploration

Alberta’s Opposition N-D-P says it has received thousands of letters from Albertans who oppose a plan to explore coal mining on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains.
The party held a meeting last night over concerns the United Conservative government has given the green light to a proposal for an Australian mining company to check for coal deposits in the Grassy Mountain area.
Northback Holdings, which was formerly Benga Mining, could drill as many as 50 holes in the area.
The N-D-P says it believes the province is hoping no one is paying attention to the controversial plan.
