Wildfire season ends, fire watchers still urging caution

Fire watchers say safe burning practices are always in season, even though wildfire season ended October 31.

From now until March 1, permits for burning are not required in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.

Officials say people are still responsible for any burning and for putting out fires.

They also caution that holdover fires can start during the fall and winter if fires aren’t put out properly and can smolder underground over the winter.

Fire watchers also recommend checking with municipalities before any large burning projects as some have bylaws and notification systems that monitor smoke.
