RCMP offering cyber security tips for safe online holiday shopping

Police in Alberta are reminding shoppers to be extra cautious when making online purchases this holiday season.

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday around the corner, RCMP are offering tips to protect people’s personal and financial information while shopping online.

• Don’t reuse passwords
• Implement multi-factor authentication
• Review privacy settings regularly
• Don’t purchase anything using public Wi-Fi
• Buy from reputable sources
• Install updates on your devices as soon as you’re prompted
• Verify the legitimacy of links sent through digital messaging

In 2022 Alberta RCMP investigated over 700 reports of theft, forgery, and misuse of a credit card.
