Curling, U18 hockey, high school football from the weekend

Curling

Kayla Skrlik’s team beat Edmonton’s Abby Marks 6-2 in the final of curling’s Ladies Alberta Open played Sunday in Okotoks.

Skrlik’s rink won all five of its games at the event.

Skip Kayla Skrlik and lead Ashton Skrlik are originally from Nampa.

The team is now based in Calgary.

U18 Hockey

Ontario Red beat Quebec 3-2 in overtime in the gold medal game at the U18 National Women’s Hockey Championship played in Dawson Creek.

British Columbia downed Alberta 3-1 in the bronze medal game.

Makena Lloyd-Howe of Tumbler Ridge was part of the B.C. team.

Rylee Mcleod of Grande Prairie, Molly Hamilton from Bay Tree, and Sarah Kjemhus of Valhalla were all with Alberta.

Football

The Sexsmith Sabres will play St. Paul in the North Championship high school football game.

It will be played on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. at CKC Field.

Sexsmith advanced in provincials with a win over Wainwright on Remembrance Day.

The Grande Prairie Phoenix, St. Joe’s, and Whitecourt all lost their games.
