Alberta Wildfire advising Peace Country residents to closely observe winter burning projects

Alberta Wildfire says there is still a risk of wildfires in the Peace region area, even after the end of the wildfire season.

The service is advising residents to be extremely cautious when conducting winter burn projects as they have the potential to spread at this stage due to a lack of snow cover.

Residents are particularly advised to check their burn sites frequently and ensure they are fully put out when finished, as a smoldering fire could dig in, burn deep into the ground, and become a holdover fire in the springtime.

Anyone who sees smoke or flames in a forested area is asked to call 310-FIRE.
