Hockey, curling, Wolves basketball on the weekend schedule for local sports

Storm

The Storm are in Fort McMurray on Friday and Saturday.

Game time will be 7:30 both nights.

Grande Prairie is now coming off a 4-1 loss on home ice Wednesday to Whitecourt.

The Storm will be fully staffed again, as Tomas Marinkovic and Dylan Thorn served the last game of their suspensions on Wednesday.

Both Marinkovic and Thorn were suspended two games following an incident that took place against the Lloydminster Bobcats on Saturday, November 18.

The Storm have a 12-11-3-1 record so far this season, good for 28 points.

The Oil Barons are 8-15-1-2 and have 19 points.

NWJHL

In the Northwest Junior Hockey League Friday, Dawson Creek at the Wheat Kings and Sexsmith in Fairview.

Saturday, Wheat Kings in Sexsmith and Beaverlodge in Fairview.

All those games start at 8 p.m.

Also Saturday, Peace River in La Crete at 7 p.m.

Sunday, Peace River in La Crete starts at 1:30. Beaverlodge at Dawson Creek starts at 2 p.m.

NPHL

There is one game in the North Peace Hockey League Friday as Falher is in Manning.

Saturday, Falher in Valleyview and Fort St. John in Dawson Creek.

All games start at 8:30 p.m.

Curling

The Mile Zero Cash Spiel will take place at the Dawson Creek Curling Club Friday through Sunday.

There will be 16 teams playing in a triple knockout format for $25,000 in prize money.

This is the second stop for the 2023-24 edition of the Peace Curling Tour.

The first was in Slave Lake November 10 to 12.

Future ones include the Grande Prairie Cash Spiel January 12 to 14, the Fort St. John – Triples Spiel February 9 to 11 and the Peace River Cash Spiel February 23 to 25. Those last two events are tentative and could change.

The Tour Championship is set for March 8 to 10 in Sexsmith.

Wolves

Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves basketball will visit Augustana Friday at 6 and 8 p.m. and Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.

These will be the last basketball games until January 19.

Volleyball is also off until the new year. It will resume on January 12.

Futsal will start January 19.
