Some young musicians from Grande Prairie have won an armful of awards from Conservatory Canada.

Emily Ding and Qi Fang Liu (Lulu to her friends) have both received a National Medal for Excellence Award in the Piano Grade 9 exam. This is for getting the highest marks in the country.

Sean Shi finished in first place nationally for Clarinet Grade 9.

Local kids also recorded seven first place finishes in Alberta. That includes:

William Ding: Grade 5 Classical Piano

Felix Tang Liu: Grade 7 Classical Piano

William Wang: Grade 8 Classical Piano

Carlson Lu: Theory 1

William Ding: Theory 1

Qi Fang Liu: Theory 3

Jayna Dreger: Theory 3

William Ding, William Wang, Emily, Lulu, Felix, and Sean, along with Emma Jin, also earned scholarships from the conservancy.

Everyone in the group is from Grande Prairie, except Dreger, who is from Saddle Hills County.

The piano teacher for all of them is Carmen Bartel. The clarinet teacher is Robert Howey.

There was also some recognition for Slave Lake Grade 2 student Miryam Abunada. She won a Medal of Excellence for piano. Her teacher is Susanne Campbell.

A Convocation and Awards Ceremony was held November 18 in London, Ontario. Felix and Lulu were the only ones able to attend in person.
