MD of Peace Council budget talks Tuesday evening, November highlights

Over the course of November, the Municipal District of Peace held two council meetings, with discussion on a number of interesting agenda items.

Some of the highlights include:

Dan Williams

The council met with MLA for Peace River and Minister of Mental Health and Addiction Dan Williams at one of the meetings. They covered a number of topics like: investments, healthcare, and the release of inmates and mental health and addictions. Williams also shared information to council on how the provincial government is developing a Compassionate Intervention Act to address mental health, addictions, and public safety issues.

Lueken Gravel Pit

Studies to be prepared and conducted by Roy Northern to update the status of the Lueken Gravel Pit located southeast of Grimshaw on Range Road 263 were approved by council. Progress is currently underway. The MD expects they will be able to utilize the gravel pit in 2024.

Northwest Regional Bail Crown Prosecutor letter

Council asked administration to write a letter of support for the Peace Regional RCMP Community Advisory Committee for a pilot project to get a Northwest Regional Bail Crown Prosecutor in Peace River to better handle safety concerns caused by the current tele-bail process.

Budget Deliberations

Council called for a special meeting to be held on Tuesday, December 5, at the Municipal Office in Berywn for budget talks. The meeting is at 5:30 p.m.
