Heavy police presence in Mountview neighbourhood

Dec 20, 2023 | 11:54 AM

UPDATE:

Grande Prairie RCMP continues to have a heavy presence in the Mountview neighborhood.

However, the hold and secure at St. Clemtent’s Catholic School has been lifted and parents and guardians can pick up their child from the front of the school.

The hold and secure is also lifted at Crystal Park and Hillside School, children will be dismissed as usual, except for students living in the 96 Street, 92 Street, 116 Avenue, and 108 Avenue area, as their parent or guardian will need to pick them up at the front doors of the school.

At this time, the public is still asked to avoid the area.

The Grande Prairie RCMP are advising the public of a heavy police presence in the Mountview neighborhood.

The public is being asked to avoid the area within these four boundaries: 96 Street, 100 Street, 116 Avenue and 108 Avenue.

Residents within the view of the police response are to shelter in place and stay away from windows.

RCMP are also asking that photos of responding officers not be put on social media until the incident is over.

An update on this matter is anticipated.

Crystal Park School says in a social media post that police have asked the school to put a hold and secure in place.

The post says students are safe and that parents and guardians are asked not to come to the school.

Both the RCMP and Crystal Park School say updates will be given when it is possible.
