County of Grande Prairie

Over $4.5 million in grants pledged to local organizations in 2024

In 2024, the County of Grande Prairie Council has pledged to provide $4,501,807 to multiple groups through grant funding.

The grants are going to many place for residents and visitors to benefit from like; sports, recreation, organizations, and facilities.

Of the pledged amount, $2,139,486 will be allocated to Community Assistance Grants, and $2,362,321 towards Capital Community Projects:

• Community Assistance Grants are to provide operational funding for non-profit and volunteer groups that promote active, safe, and sustainable communities, and that own or operate facilities that provide recreational, sports, and cultural opportunities.
• Capital Community Project Grants are to offer financial support to non-organizations that own or operate facilities that provide recreational, sports, and cultural opportunities and make improvements to their facilities or build new ones.

The County says grant funding “helps support and offset operational costs for organizations located in the County and the communities of Beaverlodge, Grande Prairie, Sexsmith, and Wembley.”

Reeve Bob Marshall said in a release, “The County is pleased to recognize the valuable contributions of these organizations and volunteers and is appreciative of their efforts to provide services and opportunities that enhance the quality of life and pride in our communities.”

The grant allocation breakdown in the 2024 budget are as follows:

Capital Community Project Grants

• $500,000 to the La Glace & District Agricultural Society for the Recreation Centre Dry Fit-out – the first installment of a three-year $1,500,000 commitment (2024-2026)
• $169,625 to the Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park for equipment replacement – the second installment of a $558,375 four-year commitment (2023-2026)
• $100,000 to Rising Above for a new building to double the current number of treatment beds – the first installment of a two-year $200,000 commitment (2024-2025)
• $100,000 to the Grande Prairie Emergency Youth Shelter Society – the second installment of a three-year $300,000 commitment (2023-2025)
• $100,000 to the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie for the D-Coy Armories Renovations – the second installment of a two-year $200,000 commitment (2023-2024)
• $50,000 to the Spring Lake Ski Hill Association for Phase 2 of the ski hill improvements
• $50,000 to the Harry Balfour School Participant Association for the replacement school playground
• $30,000 to the Saskatoon Lake Agricultural Society to upgrade kitchen appliances
• $25,000 to the Sexsmith & District Museum Society for improvements to a train dining car to exhibit the Peace region
• $25,000 to Teepee Creek School for a new playground
• $20,473 to the Wapiti Nordic Ski Club for trail grooming and equipment maintenance
• $20,000 to the Grande Prairie Regional Association of Volunteer Organizations for HVAC upgrades
• $15,854 to the Clairmont & District Ag Society for community hall roof repairs
• $13,000 to the Albright Community Hall Association for upgrades to doors and decking
• $12,100 to the Royal Canadian Legion Hythe Branch No. 93 Hall for a bathroom renovation
• $11,278 to Grande Prairie Minor Baseball for facility improvements
• $10,000 to the Royal Canadian Legion West Smoky Branch for a kitchen renovation project
• $10,000 to the Wedgewood Hamlet Homeowners Association for the sport court project

Community Assistance Grants

• $475,078 to the Grande Prairie Agriculture & Exhibition Society for operations
• $429,535 for the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation for the installation of television services – to complete the $1 million commitment
• $400,000 to the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum for operations
• $200,000 per year to STARS for operational funding – the second installment of a $600,000 three-year commitment (2022-2024)
• $100,000 to the STARS Fleet Renewal Campaign – the fourth installment of a $500,000 five-year commitment (2020-2024)
• $100,000 to the Alberta Winter Games – the second installment of a two-year $200,000 commitment (2023-2024)
• $86,000 to the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie for operational funding – the second installment of a three-year $258,000 commitment (2023-2025)
• $70,761 to the South Peace Regional Archives for general operations
• $58,072 to the Grande Prairie Sports Council for general operational funding – the final installment of a three-year $174,216 commitment (2022-2024)
• $50,000 to the Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park for yearly energy costs – the second installment of a $200,000 four-year commitment (2023-2026)
• $30,000 to the Grande Prairie Regional Association of Volunteer Organizations – the final installment of a $90,000 three-year commitment (2022-2024)
• $25,500 for the Community Hall connectivity pilot project – $500 each to 17 halls to complete initial set up, plus an additional $1,000 each to assist with internet service fees
• $25,000 to Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue for operational funding – the final installment of a three-year $75,000 commitment (2022-2024)
• $15,000 to the Grade Three Reading University for operational funding
• $14,240 to Kleskun Hills Museum Society for operational funding
• $10,000 to the County of Grande Prairie Recreation Fee Assistance Program
• $9,000 to the Peace Airshed Zone Association
• $7,500 to the Community Foundation for the County of Grande Prairie Firefighters
• $7,000 for Agricultural Fairs in the County – $1,000 each to Valhalla, Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, Clairmont, Hythe, Wembley and Bezanson
• $6,000 to KidSport Grande Prairie
• $5,000 to the County Seasonal Neighbourhood Ice Surface Program grant
• $3,300 to the Peace Draft Horse Club for operational support of the Northern Spirit Light Show
• $2,500 to the Big Hearts for Big Kids Charity Fundraiser in support of the Grande Prairie Youth Emergency Shelter Society
• $2,500 to the Grande Prairie Rural Crime Watch for operational funding
• $1,900 for the 2024 STARS Gala Event
• $1,500 to the Northwestern Polytechnic Awards – the fifth installment of a $15,000 10-year commitment (2020-2029)
• $1,400 to the Hythe & District Agricultural Society for equipment costs to install Remembrance Day/Christmas decorations – the first installment of a $4,200 three-year commitment (2024-2026)
• $1,200 to the Grande Prairie Regional EMS Foundation Family Golf Classic for Life
• $1,000 to the Beaverlodge and Hythe Hospital Foundations – $500 each
• $500 for the M.D. of Greenview Annual Clay shoot – the first installment of a $1,500 three-year commitment (2024-2026)
