Peavey Donation

Peavey Mart Grande Prairie makes clothing and food donations to Wapiti House

Dec 24, 2023 | 6:00 AM

Grande Prairie’s Peavey Mart has made a donation of clothing and food to the region’s less fortunate.

Store manager Shawn Siegers says the store’s annual Heat the Feet campaign donated 1500 pieces of clothing to the Wapiti House homeless shelter.

“It’s been phenomenal to see the community come together,” Siegers says. “Everything is donations based off of the community coming in and supporting the initiative. It’s great to see everyone supporting each other at this time of year.”

Siegers says they chose Wapiti House to be this year’s campaign recipient because of its direct impact on the community.

“It’s something that I’ve been able to see people seek support in, as well as support those in need as well,” he says. “Thank you to the community for all coming together in supporting this cause. Hopefully next year, we can beat our numbers for this year.

Wapiti House project lead Jared Gossen says they have received donations from Peavey Mart in the past but not typically on this scale.

“This amount of coordination and effort is kind of new for them over the last couple of months, it’s really great to also see that that’s paid off,” Gossen says. “I’m sure their staff and management feel the same.”

Gossen says the donation shows just how amazing the community of Grande Prairie is.

“A great reminder of not only Grande Prairie’s taking care of its own but also a good reminder for everybody using our services that even though they are struggling, they haven’t been forgotten. There’s still a lot of goodwill out there for their continued success. It’s very heartwarming.”

In addition to the clothing, Peavey Mart also donated several trays of food to Wapiti House donated by Evergreen Park’s catering service.
