Trends for 2024 from the Old Farmer’s Almanac

Dec 29, 2023 | 6:00 AM

The Old Farmer’s Almanac has some predictions for trends in 2024.

The almanac’s Jack Burnett says that includes some fashion trends.

“For example, the outlook for women for this coming year are suits and pants in dark denim; oversized trousers, jackets and boyfriend shirts; and wrap and slip dresses, which are layered with turtlenecks and slacks in cold weather.”

So, what about the guys?

“Denim tuxedos. Green loafers. Chambray shirts paired with track pants and loose-fitting khakis. Also, business pants with drawstrings.”

The Old Farmer’s Almanac says the use of drones will continue to be a growing trend in farming in 2024.

As for food, people want easy but exciting ways to get meals ready and are choosing animal-based meat over plant proteins.

The almanac also says plants like lilacs, ones with a nice odour, are making a comeback for gardeners and that there is a growing trend to having native plants.

As for the home, there is a growing demand for car charging stations and outdoor kitchens. People are also looking to have homes that are 1,200 square feet or smaller.

Burnett says the almanac also notes that 30 per cent of Canadians sleep with their pets, a number he thinks may actually be low.
