Enforcement Services, Mobile Outreach now part of GPPS

The transition to the new Grande Prairie Police Service has taken another step ahead.

City Hall says in a news release that Enforcement Services and Mobile Outreach are now operating under the new police service.

The change took effect on January 1.

“Enforcement Services and Mobile Outreach are key teams that continue to make a vital difference in our community. We look forward to supporting their ongoing success as part of the transition to GPPS, and our commitment to a public safety response uniquely built to our community’s needs,” says Mayor Jackie Clayton in that same release.

That release also calls this one of many steps in the move towards Grande Prairie having its own municipal police force, adding that employees with Mobile Outreach and Enforcement Services will continue in their current roles.

It also refers to “changes in deployment” that are “expected to build a more responsive service with a more robust presence in key areas.”

“Our goal is to send the right people with the right solutions at the right time. We want to leverage every available agency, group, and resource contributing to public safety to create a more integrated response model while working closely with the RCMP during this transition,” says Chief Dwayne Lakusta in the same release from the city.
