Local hockey, curling, skiing this weekend

NWJHL

There are four games in the Northwest Junior Hockey League Friday; Wheat Kings in Fairview, Beaverlodge in Fort St. John, Sexsmith in La Crete, and Peace River in Dawson Creek.

Saturday, Fairview in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek at the Wheat Kings.

All those games start at 8 p.m.

Also Saturday, Sexsmith in La Crete starts at 7 p.m.

Sunday, Sexsmith in La Crete starting at 1:30 p.m.

NPHL

North Peace Hockey League Friday has Valleyview in Grande Prairie.

Saturday, Falher in Spirit River and Manning in Dawson Creek.

The 2024 portion of the schedule started Thursday. The A’s beat visiting Spirit River 4-2.

Curling

The Sexsmith Curling Club’s Farmers Bonspiel is underway and will continue through Sunday. It will also host its Mens and Ladies Bonspiel February 1 to 4, the Closing Mixed Bonspiel March 21 to 24, and the Grande Prairie Petroleum Association Oilmen’s Bonspiel April 3 to 6.

55+ drop-in Seniors Curling at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre goes Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $5 per player.

The next stop for the Peace Curling Tour is the Grande Prairie Cash Spiel January 12 to 14.

Ski Hills

Nitehawk Ski Hill is open Friday from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11-5 p.m.

The Tube Zone is open from 5-7 p.m. and 7:15 – 9:15 p.m. Friday, noon-2 p.m., 2:15 to 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, and noon-2 p.m. and 2:15 to 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

Whispering Pines is open daily through Sunday. Lifts run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The rental shop opens at 9 a.m.

Powder King is open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
