Province of Alberta Concludes 2023 Capital Works season

Jan 11, 2024 | 6:00 AM

The Alberta government is looking back on what it calls a productive 2023 construction season.

The province says over the year it spent $1.13 billion dollars on 250 projects, including $228 million dollars into the Highway 40 twinning project in the Pace Region.

Approximately 95 per cent of Phase 1 of the project is complete, including 10 kilometers of twinning from 68 Avenue in Grande Prairie to south of the Wapiti River, and 80 per cent of Phase 2 is complete, stretching from the river to Township Road 700.

In addition, the Little Smoky River Bridge rehabilitation project wrapped up this year with an estimated total cost of $5.3 million.

The province has spent almost $8 billion dollars over three years in the Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridor’s Capital Plan.

Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors Devin Dreeshen says the province will continue to invest in road and bridge projects to ease congestion, enhance safety and promote economic growth.
