Storm’s Doherty named AJHL Rookie of The Week

Grande Prairie Storm forward Colin Doherty has been named AJHL Rookie of The Week.

The ’05 centre finished the week with a goal and three assists in two home wins and is now third in team scoring.

Doherty’s talents were on peak display twice over the course of the week; scoring his second game-winning goal of the season, and adding an assist for two points in the Storm’s January 12 win over Canmore. Then the next day, Doherty had another multi-point night as they bested the Olds Grizzlys 4-2 on January 13.

Doherty was selected for the award, along with another pair of ’05-born players; Sherwood Park Crusaders defencemen Rylan Brown taking home the Defensive Player of the Week, and Blackfalds Bulldogs forward Layne Loomer receiving the Player of the Week award.

He now looks to help the Storm push their win streak to four as they face the Canmore Eagles in Banff today at 7:00 p.m.
