Peace Country athletes representing Canada at Winter Youth Olympic Games

Jan 18, 2024 | 12:00 PM

Two athletes from the Peace will be among the 79 representing Canada at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games.

Annika Behnke of Peace River and Kole Sauve of Grande Prairie will compete in pairs figure skating.

They train out of Sherwood Park, and both are past nominees for the Northwest Alberta Sport Excellence Awards.

They were picked based on results from competitions held in 2023 plus the 14-18 age requirement for the youth Olympics.

Those results included a bronze medal at the 2023 Novice Canadian Championships.

The games will officially run from January 19 to February 1 in South Korea, although some sports have already started.

The pairs figure skating starts on January 27 with the short program. Medals will be decided on January 29.

There is also a team event on February 1.
