County Council presents Ron Pfau Scholarship to a local student

Jan 19, 2024 | 1:23 PM

County of Grande Prairie Council awarded the Ron Pfau Memorial Scholarship at their most recent Committee of the Whole Meeting.

The $500 scholarship was awarded to a local Grande Prairie resident and second-year business administration student at Northwestern Polytechnic, Brady Roberts.

The County says the scholarship was created to memorialize long-time County administrator Ron Pfau, while supporting local students attending post-secondary in Alberta.

However, beyond academics, Roberts demonstrated a strong commitment to his community, spending his summer as a summer student with the Grande Spirit Foundation, providing affordable housing to low-income families and seniors.

“Exceptional dedication” to community and academics is something the County “values in their scholarship recipients”, according to Reeve Bob Marshall, adding in the release; “His ambition and grounded approach to education make him a standout candidate for this scholarship. Council takes pride in supporting Brady’s journey and we wish him continued success in his academic and professional endeavors.”

The 20-year-old St. Joe’s graduate discussed the meaning of this award in the same release; “The financial support provided not only allows me to maintain focus on my studies but also acts as a catalyst for my education,” Roberts says. “Serving as a motivational force and instilling a profound sense of pride.”

The Ron Pfau scholarship is offered annually to a City or County resident, with a relative still living in the community, who is pursuing post-secondary in Alberta.

To meet the requirements for this scholarship, applicants must be studying in the fields of business, commerce, or public office administration, and are selected on a wide range of criteria.
