City to discuss implementing stormwater utility charge February 12

Jan 24, 2024 | 12:14 PM

The City of Grande Prairie Council is considering switching to a utility funding model for the city stormwater system.

The City’s Operational Services Committee has recommended council approve a bylaw that would transition the service away from the present tax-based funding model to a Stormwater Utility Charge.

The change would tie the stormwater systems funding to a property’s contribution to stormwater runoff, to ensure the operation and maintenance costs are shared fairly, equitably, and efficiently among those who use it.

Council will make their decision on the transition at their first regular meeting next month on February 12. Residents and businesses have until then to learn more about the Stormwater Utility Charge on the City’s website.
