Federal government announces fifth round of Local Food Infrastructure Fund grants

The federal government has announced another nearly $10 million in project support in the fifth round of funding from the Local Food Infrastructure Fund.

This money will help 192 projects across the country that help people produce local food.

The government says in a release that 65 of the projects are Indigenous-led and will split $5 million of this funding.

Those projects include $120,000 for Whitefish Lake First Nation to buy a hydroponic modular unit that will grow fresh produce year-round.

The Loon River Cree First Nation will get just over $100,000 to buy smokehouses, greenhouses and a tractor.
