Brownvale, Sexsmith farmers part of first Alberta Grains board

Feb 1, 2024 | 2:21 PM

Alberta Grains has its first-ever board of directors.

The group was formed after the merger of the Alberta Wheat Commission and Alberta Barley.

Tasha Alexander of Brownvale and Greg Sears of Sexsmith have been picked to represent Region 6 on the board, the area that takes in the Peace Country.

Acme producer Tara Sawyer will serve as board chair.

“I am honoured by the board’s vote of confidence in my ability to serve Alberta’s wheat and barley farmers as chair. There is so much opportunity in the industry as a whole and as a board, we’re leveraging that to ensure wheat and barley remain a top choice for farmers and end-users alike. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as the first chair for Alberta Grains,” says Sawyer in an Alberta Grains news release.

Scott Jesperson of Spruce Grove is first vice-chair. Devin Hartzler of Carstairs is the second vice-chair.

The new board was announced after the Alberta Grains annual general meeting on Wednesday in Calgary.
