Alberta Pulse Growers names new board

Feb 7, 2024 | 2:35 PM

The Alberta Pulse Growers Commission named its new board at its recent annual general meeting in Calgary.

Beverly Wieben of Fairview and Peter Konstapel of Spirit River will represent Zone 4, the area that takes in the Peace Country.

Konstapel will also continue as vice-chair.

Wieben had previously been a director-at-large.

Neerlandia farmer Shayne Strydhorst was re-elected as board chair.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the great work this board has initiated to maximize opportunities for Alberta’s pulse farmers. The addition of a new director will bring fresh perspectives as we continue promoting and building upon the economic benefits of growing peas, beans, faba beans, lentils, chickpeas and soybeans, as well as the sustainability of our industry. We are also working hard to address root rot and other challenges for our growers,” says Strydhorst in a release from APG.

That same release says the organization represents 5,400 Alberta farmers that grow field peas, dry beans, lentils, chickpeas, faba beans and soybeans.
