Students from local high schools to attend Forest & Wildlife Youth Summit

Feb 18, 2024 | 6:00 AM

Students and teachers from three local high schools have been invited to attend Inside Education’s Regenerate Forest and Wildlife Youth Summit in March.

After a record-setting number of applications were received, Beaverlodge Regional High School, Hillcrest Christian School, and St. John Paul II Catholic School will all be sending students to participate.

Taking place in Canmore, students chosen to attend will experience “field-based tours, interactive learning activities, hands-on workshops and face-to-face discussions” with “experts from industry, government, academia, NGOs and Indigenous leaders; while exploring the science, technology, issues and career paths related to Alberta’s forests and wildlife,” according to a news release.

Students then will be challenged to use what they have learned throughout the four-day summit, “to positively impact their peers, schools and communities.”

The four students and two teachers from each school selected to attend will be joined by members from 17 other schools from across the province.

“The Regenerate Summit will allow the 80 students – tomorrow’s scientists, leaders and decision-makers – an unmatched opportunity to connect with Alberta’s forests, wildlife and the activities today, that will positively impact their future,” said Inside Education Program Director Kathryn Wagner.

The summit will run from March 7-10.
