Zone 3 leads medal count after Day 1 at Alberta Winter Games

Saturday, February 17th kicked off the first day of competition in Grande Prairie at the Alberta Winter Games.

After Day 1, medal counts are as follows:

  1. Zone 3 – 18 Gold, 15 Silver, 15 Bronze
  2. Zone 2 – 8 Gold, 10 Silver, 9 Bronze
  3. Zone 5 – 4 Gold, 6 Silver, 6 Bronze
  4. Zone 1 – 5 Gold, 6 Silver, 6 Bronze
  5. Zone 6 – 5 Gold, 7 Silver, 3 Bronze
  6. Zone 4 – 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 5 Bronze
  7. Zone 7 – 5 Gold, 0 Silver, 1 Bronze
  8. Zone 8 – 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze

Medal wins on Saturday from Zone 8 athletes are:

  • Wesley Gauthier – Cross Country Skiing U12 Male Sprint 1st Place
  • William Armstrong – Cross Country Skiing U16 Male Sprint2nd Place
  • Elyssa Mclellan – Figure Skating STAR 6 Women’s Freeskate3rd Place

Competition wraps up on Monday morning, and the games will conclude following a closing ceremony where three additional awards will be handed out based on what Zone had the best performance, sportsmanship, and improvement.
