The Greenview Industrial Gateway (GIG), could see some new development in the near future.

At the Growing the North Conference Wednesday, February 21, Interprovincial Fuel Solutions Ltd. gave a presentation on a proposed IFS natural gas to gasoline facility in the GIG.

The proposed facility would produce 12,000 barrels of low-carbon synthetic gasoline a day, with the ability to supply “in excess”, 100 per cent of the gas demand for the Grande Prairie region.

The company says the plant would also permanently store all the produced CO2 at the site, with clean hydrogen (H2) being used as a fuel, leading to no emission combustion.

Propoents say the ultra-clean, synthetic gasoline manufactured at these facilities also already meets both current and 2030 fuel regulations required by Canada and the U.S.

As for local economic implications; this project would provide 1,300 jobs during the construction phase, and another 900 for operation, with local GDP impacts over $900 million.
