Two-day symposium on changing the family justice system
The Grande Prairie Family Education Society is hosting a by invitation only event called the Re-Imagining the Family Justice System Symposium Thursday and Friday at the Montrose Cultural Centre.
The organization says ion a news letter that the current system does not work for a lot of families, be it in family violence, separation and divorce, or child welfare.
The letter also says Alberta’s Reforming the Family Justice System has been looking at new ways of doing things for over 10 years and has been talking to people in several sectors in Grande Prairie for the last three years.
They are looking at going from the current method of what they term “fighting it out in court” to one where the community supports families that are changing, something they think will help families with financial, health and parenting issues that come up, learn how to communicate and put the well-being of children first.
