NPHL
The Spirit River Rangers are moving on in the North Peace Hockey League playoffs.
The Rangers beat the Athletics 6-1 Thursday night in Grande Prairie to win their opening round series 4-3.
Spirit River will be in Dawson Creek for Game 1 of the West Division final Sunday.
The East Division final starts Saturday with Manning in Falher.
Both games start at 8:30.
NWJHL
In the Northwest Junior Hockey League playoffs Thursday, Peace River beat the visiting Wheat Kings 4-1 to take a 2-1 lead in that series. Game 4 will be played Saturday in Peace River.
Friday night, Beaverlodge in Dawson Creek and La Crete in Sexsmith. The Blades and Lumber Barons are up 2-0.
La Crete will be in Sexsmith again Saturday and Beaverlodge would be in Dawson Creek Sunday if Game 4 is needed in either series.
All games start at 8 p.m.
Storm
The Storm have two home games this weekend.
They play Drumheller Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Storm are in eighth place in the AJHL standings, two points back of Canmore with two games in hand.
Grande Prairie has five games left tin the regular season, counting the two this weekend.
Curling
The Peace Curling Tour continues with the Peace River Cash Spiel Friday through Sunday.
This is the final stop before the Tour Championship set for March 8 to 10 in Sexsmith.
Sexsmith will also host the Grande Prairie Petroleum Association’s Oilmen’s Bonspiel.
Entries are open and there is room for 24 teams.
The bonspiel will start with registration night April 3 at the Sexsmith Curling Club. Games go April 4 to 6.
Wolves
The Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves men’s basketball visits Lakeland Saturday as the playoffs get underway.
Game time is 8 p.m.
The men’s basketball team is lone Wolves squad to make the playoffs.
Ski Hills
Nitehawk ski hill is open until 9 Friday night and Saturday and Sunday from 11-5.
The Tube Zone is open from 2:30 to 4:30, 5-7 and 7:30 to 9:30 Friday, 11:30-1:30, 2:00-4:00, 4:30 to 6:30 Saturday and Sunday.
Whispering Pines is open Friday through Sunday. Lifts run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The rental shop opens at 9 a.m.
Powder King is open Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9-3, Saturdays and Sundays from 9-3:30.
Free Skating
There is free skating hosted by CDN Controls Sunday at the Design Works Centre from 2:25 to 3:30 p.m.
