MD of Greenview addresses agriculture challenges in 2023

The Municipal District of Greenview and the Greenview Agricultural Service Board want to address some of the agricultural challenges they faced in 2023 and why certain steps were not taken.
A challenging year for forage yields almost prompted a declaration of an agricultural disaster for the MD, but the board chose not to go through with the declaration as the drop had not met the needed criteria.
The MD was excluded from the Canada-Alberta Drought Livestock Assistance program, with staff believing this was due to the mix of forested crown lands and small agricultural lands creating too complicated precipitation patterns for the province to fully understand.
In response to the exclusion, the board addressed a letter of concern in February to the Federal Minister of Agriculture to urge a reconsideration.
