New exhibit debuting at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie

Feb 26, 2024 | 1:19 PM

A new exhibition will debut Thursday, February 29, at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie with an Artist Talk and reception.

Edmonton-based artist Kim McCollum’s exhibit, The Unmakers will be on display and will remain at the Gallery until the end of June.

The gallery says McCollum, a multi-disciplinary artist working in a variety of mediums, always begins her pieces with “a grid, or the idea of a grid, using it to reference the warp, and weft of threads.”

“In the Unmakers, McCollum continues her investigation of the grid, pushing its narrative capacity,” according to AGGP Executive Director and The Unmaker’s Curator, Jessica Groome.

In this curation, “figures emerge from the structure,” as the “grid works for them, opposed to the other way around.”

“With play and confidence, McCollum presents a kind of woven fiction, revealing aspects of the creative process.”

The Artist Talk to debut the exhibit will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a reception at 7 p.m.
