Feb 27, 2024 | 1:34 PM

The federal government has announced $13.5 million in funding for its Youth Employment and Skills Program.

The government says in a release this will support jobs for 1,200 young people in the agriculture sector.

The program will pay half the wages of an employee up to $14,000, up to 80 per cent for employees who, as the government says, are “facing barriers to employment” and may also qualify for $5,000 to “address specific obstacles to employment.”

The government says the program supports the following employees:

· Indigenous;

· youth living with a disability – including physical, mental health-related or learning disability;

· racialized youth;

· recent newcomers to Canada (within 5 years);

· single parent;

· living in a low-income household;

· individual who left high school;

· residing in a remote, northern and/or fly-in community;

· living in an Official Language Minority Community; and

· 2SLGBTQQIA+.

Applications are open now and will stay open through March 25.

Application forms and more information can be found on the Agriculture Canada website.
