PWPSD welcomes temporary Indigenous Education Services Lead

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division says Jackie Benning is being welcomed back to its Indigenous Education Services team.

Benning, who is a member of the Metis Nation of Alberta, will be taking the team lead role temporarily, after previously working as a PWPSD Indigenous Education Team member in the 2021-2022 school year.

In her new role, Benning will be responsible for “facilitating guest speakers, Knowledge Keepers, and Elders, as well as the annual PWPSD Indigenous Student Awards.” While being expected “to continue partnerships and projects with community organizations such as the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, and the Werklund School of Education’s Walk Alongside You(th) research project.”

Benning, who first began her career with PWPSD in 2012 at the Clairmont Community School, will start her new temporary role on Monday, March 11.
