19 charges laid against GP man following search of Patterson home

The Grande Prairie RCMP Drug Section executed a search warrant last month at a city residence.

On February 22, the Grande Prairie RCMP’s Drug Section, with support from Police Dog Services and the Crime Reduction Unit, searched a property in the Patterson neighbourhood.

The search turned up a number of illegal items, which were seized by Mounties:

  • 918 grams of methamphetamine
  • 148 grams of cocaine
  • 27 grams of fentanyl
  • 265 oxycontin pills
  • $14,700 in Canadian currency
  • Handgun with defaced serial number
  • Two sawed-off rifles
  • Drug trafficking paraphernalia

James Burwash, a 43-year-old Grande Prairie resident had 19 charges laid against him:

  • Three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Canadian currency over $5,000 as proceeds of crime
  • Three counts of possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Three counts of possession of a prohibited firearm while knowing its possession is prohibited
  • Two counts of defacing firearm serial number
  • Three counts of possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm obtained in the commission of an offence
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Two counts of failing to comply with an order

Burwash was remanded into custody with a court date set for Monday, March 11 in Grande Prairie.
