Grande Prairie RCMP arrest impaired driver wanted in Beaverlodge

An impaired driver who fled Grande Prairie RCMP on Friday, March 8 is now in custody.

Grande Prairie RCMP say they attempted to stop a pickup truck travelling along Highway 43 at 11:30 p.m. while conducting traffic enforcement in the County.

However, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.

At the time no pursuit was initiated, but the vehicle was located shortly after stuck in a snow bank, and the driver was determined to be under the influence.

A provincial impaired driving charge was then laid against 32-year-old Grande Prairie resident, Matthew Micheal Murphy.

Additionally, Murphy was wanted out of Beaverlodge for sexual assault and sexual interference on a minor charges that took place back in July, 2023, as well as flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle charges, also out of Beaverlodge, dating back to April of 2023.

Murphy has now been remanded into custody and is set to appear in Grande Prairie court on March 25.
