PWPSD releases new Whispering Ridge & Harry Balfour boundaries

Mar 15, 2024 | 11:16 AM

The Peace Wapiti Public School District has updated Whispering Ridge Community School’s boundaries, to implement the new Harry Balfour School.

As the new Harry Balfour is set to open for the 2024/205 academic year, 170 students will transition over from Whispering Ridge.

PWPSD says the new boundary will start “1.5 kilometres south of Highway 43, and a portion of the current southwest attendance area will be moved further west, and families within this area will begin attending Harry Balfour School for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.”

The School district credited this change to the Whispering Ridge community’s rapid growth, with PWPSD Board Chair Lori Grant saying “it was time to make a change.”

“Since the school opened in 2018, Whispering Ridge Community School has seen an average annual enrollment growth of 10%,” Grant says. “Which is anticipated to continue as the area grows.”

PWPSD also provided an update for parents and guardians with a child already registered to attend Whispering Ridge in either kindergarten or as a new student for the 2024/2025 academic year.

They say any child already registered will be automatically reassigned to their designated school.

This decision comes after PWPSD conducted parent engagement sessions with parents and guardians from both schools.
