Mixed provincials start Thursday in Grande Prairie, Senior provincials wrap up in Calgary

Mixed Provincials

The Grande Prairie Curling Centre will host the Alberta Mixed Championship starting Thursday.

There are round robin draws in the triple knockout event at 9 a.m., 2 and 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The quarterfinals are set for 5 p.m. Saturday, semi-finals are at 10 a.m. Sunday, with the final Sunday at 2 p.m.

There are 13 teams, including six from Grande Prairie and Sexsmith, taking part.

They are skipped by Kurt Balderston, Colin Griffith, Marcus Luckwell, Rob Maksymetz, Graham Powell and Doug Small.

Senior Provincials

Delia DeJong’s Grande Prairie rink dropped its only playoff game at Senior Provincials in Calgary, 5-3 to Sherwood Park’s Michelle Hartwell.

The game was played on Saturday.

DeJong went 3-1 in the round robin and finished second in her pool.

Atina Ford-Johnston of Okotoks beat Deb Santos from Sherwood Park 6-5 in the final. Ford-Johnstone had beaten Hartwell 7-4 in the semi-final.

Sherwood Park’s James Pahl defeated Calgary’s Scott Hellwig 8-3 in the men’s final.

Grande Prairie’s Colin Griffith finished the round robin with a record of 1-6.
