Grande Prairie Curling Centre hosting provincial mixed championship starting Thursday

Thirteen teams start play today at the provincial mixed curling championship being played at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre.

The first draw starts at 9 a.m. with draws also scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The 13 teams include six from the Peace Country.

That includes the Kurt Balderston and Graham Powell rinks from Sexsmith and the Colin Griffith, Marcus Luckwell, Rob Maksymetz, and Doug Small teams from Grande Prairie.

Griffith plays Jodi Vaughn of Coaldale in Draw 1, with the winner moving on to play Balderston in the afternoon.

Luckwell plays Michael Lambert of Edmonton and Maksymetz plays Colin Tanton of Wainwright at 9 with the winners playing each other at 2.

Small plays Jessica Wytrychowski of Airdrie at 9 a.m.

Powell will play the winner between Jeff Henricks of Whitecourt and Scott Smith of Edmonton at 2 p.m.

There are also draws at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.

The quarterfinals are set for 5 p.m. Saturday, semi-finals are at 10 a.m. Sunday, with the final Sunday at 2 p.m.
